BEN SORRELLS JR., Mangum.
After graduation,
I attended
Oklahoma A and M College for one year playing
freshman basketball. I entered the Army in 1950
and served in Japan and Korea with the 45th
Infantry Division (Oklahoma National Guard). In
1953, 1 attended Southwestern State College. In
1957. I re-entered the Army in the aviation
maintenance field. Serving overseas in Korea and
Germany. In 1967, I completed Army Helicopter Flight School
and served two tours in Vietnam and a tour in Hawaii as a
helicopter pilot. I retired from the Army in 1981 and moved to
Alabama to work for a civilian helicopter maintenance company
as a helicopter maintenance test pilot until I retired in 1994 and
moved back to Mangum.
I married Ramona J. Collings in 1952 and we have two children. Rick lives in Keller, Texas and Debi who lives in Palm Desert, California. We have five grandchildren. Brian is attending Oklahoma Christian College in Edmond, Kristin attends Iowa University in Pre Med, Jackie is in High School in Keller, TX, Dak is in grade school in Palm Desert, CA and plays hockey for Anaheim Jr. Ducks, and Presley Erin is in the 1st grade in Palm Desert, CA.
