The site where we went to high school has been used as a school since the late 1800’s when a two story wooden building was built. This was replaced with a large two story brick building in 1906 that stood until 1967 when construction began on the school buildings we used as a high school. In preparation for the new buildings, the football stadium which stood where the 100 and 200 classroom buildings are now, was moved to it current location in 1962 and that area became a practice field. Around 1967 the 100 and 200 buildings were built first along with a new library and administration building, then the two story building was torn down and replaced by a large auditorium in 1970.
In the 1980’s a new high school was built on Summit Drive and the buildings we used as a high school on Main St. were converted into a middle school. Liberty Middle School began operation in August, 1985 becoming the first “middle” school in Pickens County serving the fifth through the eighth grades. On March 6, 2008 ground was broken for another new high school on Ruhammah Rd. When the new school is built, the middle school will move to the current high school, the building we used as a high school will cease to be used by the school district and some of the facilities at our old school will probably be torn down with the rest being used for community purposes. |

About of our class |
|
Most of Liberty's Class of 1978 started school in 1966 at either Liberty Elementary School, Cateechee-Norris Elementary School or Rosewood Elementary School. After completing the sixth grade we entered the seventh grade at Liberty High School in 1972. Boy was that an eye waking experience, having to move from class to class, putting up with those really big kids known as seniors, and remembering the combination to our locker. We spent six years getting to know each other and growing up together. After school we went our separate ways, some starting to work, others going to college and others starting a family. We each had our own hopes and dreams. |
