Dear Sir'

The data which follow in regard to John Turner were obtained from Pension claim, W.8792, based upon his service in the Revolutionary War.

The date and place of birth and names of the parents of John Turner are not shown.

John Turner enlisted Aug. 1, 1777, in the State of North Carolina, for the term of the war, served as private and sergeant in Captains Brown and Joshua Bowen's Companies, Colonel Thomas Clarks 1" North Carolina Regiment, and was discharged at the close of the war in 1783.

Shortly after the war, the soldier moved from North Carolina to Claiborne Co TN where he died Oct.11 1825.

John Turner married prior to 1782,in Stokes Co North Carolina, Mary Cloud. The date and place of her birth and names of her parents are not given.

Soon after the death of John Turner, his widow, Mary, moved to Knox Co Kentucky, where she died March 4 1844, Survived by these children whose names and ages were given in 1852 as follow;

Benjamin Turner aged sixty-eight years

Nancy Turner aged sixty-eight years

John Turner aged sixty-four

Joseph Turner aged sixty years

William Turner aged fifty-nine years

Mary Turner aged fifty-nine years

April 1 1852, John Turner, son of John Turner and his wife, Mary, while residing in Knox Co KY, applied for the pension that was due on account of the Revolutionary War service of his father.

He applied in behalf of himself and the other surviving children named above. The claim was allowed.

Sue...I hope I haven't confused you by the way I sent these pages to you. All of these pages are from the war file of John Turner...husband of Mary Cloud. Some letters in this file are from people that descended from the Madison Co KY, Turner family. Somehow they got this John Turner's war record mixed up with John B Turner of Madison Co KY.
