Dick was born November 10 1925 to the late Walter Scribner & Lorena (Thetford) Guiler in Chicago IL.
His education included McGuffey High School graduate 1943; U.S. Army military cryptographer 1944-1946; at Miami University named to Phi Beta Kappa as a junior and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1949; earned two master's degrees from Columbia University.
Mr. Guiler retired in 1987 as assistant superintendent after 37 years in West Carrollton School District.
Past president of the Ohio Education Association former board member of National Education Association and past chairman of the Commission on the Improvement of Education in Ohio.
He taught at Miami University as adjunct faculty member. He was a past member of the West Carrollton School Board. He was the recipient of Miami's Bishop Medal in 1964 and the Alumni Distinguished Service Award in 1972. Served as Dean's Associate in Miami's School of Education and Allied Professions. Served on the Miami University Alumni Association Board of Directors 1993-1998.
Miami University philanthropy included: Guiler Family Scholar-Leader Room Dickinson Thetford Guiler Scholar-Leader Room McGuffey Scholarship
Mr. Guiler was responsible for more than 100 scholarships to Miami University in the Guiler family name.
Surviving are three cousins Eloise Lucy (Goode) Harmon, Mary Stone, Glenna Thliss

A celebration & recognition of Mr. Guiler's West Carrollton Education Service will be Wednesday December 12 2001 at 5:00 p.m. at the West Carrollton High School Auditorium.
