Larry Gilbert, class of 1961, writes (December 18, 2003):
My family was from Farmersville. My dad went to Dixie High School. His aunt Hazel passed last year at 95. I don't think Rosemary and I are related but maybe so. Maybe she is related to Mildred Gilbert (also a River Rat like us). I don't think we are related either. But maybe so. ?????

I just added Mr. Huffman's email address to my address book. He was more than a teacher to lots of us boys. He was also our boss. Mr. Huffman was the summer Caddie Master at Moraine Country Club. We learned so many "life lessons" from him. You know we had a burning question in school as to whether he was a Democrat or Republican. We never were sure and he was certainly elusive. We thought we were playing a grand trick on him in class. One of us guys would ask a provocative question to try and get him off on a tangent rather than remember we had homework to hand in. I was particularly impressed that he was so smart so as to have a grading template for tests. The trick was on us as we got into so many heated debates that we were learning current events and living the election and becoming men and women whether we wanted to or not. Oh yes didn't we all love the demerit system he had. I remember more about him I think than any of our other teachers. Of course Mr. Johnson played a big part too. He was so classy and such an example he presented. You know if any of us guys had half a brain we would have been jealous cause truth be know I think You weren't alone in your crush Bonnie. I think lots of girls Placed us lowly boys in a level somewhere below Mr. Johnson. Isn't that great the role models we had?
